Espen Kofstad

Country: Norway
Date of birth: 11/08/1987

Espen graduated from the University of Denver in 2010 with a degree in Marketing and Economics.

He holds the school record for the lowest 54-hole score of 195 and won twice on the collegiate circuit.

In his final year, he had the lowest scoring average on the team, having carded 12 rounds in the 60s from 13 tournaments and recorded ten top-ten finishes, and in 2009 he won the ‘Arets Talent’ award as Norway’s top amateur.

His handicap was plus 4.1 when he turned professional at the end of 2010 and he had reached 18th in the World Amateur Rankings. Espen won the Norweigian Individual Championship twice as an amateur and represented Norway twice in the World Amateur Championships.

Espen played most of his golf on the Challenge Tour during 2011 and narrowly missed out on securing a European Tour card for 2012.

He secured his maiden Challenge Tour victory in July the following year at the Acaya Open. He closed his fine season with a victory at the Apulia San Domenico Grand Final, which made him the Challenge Tour rankings winner for 2012.

Espen recorded his maiden top ten finish on the European Tour at the Open de Espana, where he tied for eighth.

After losing his playing privileges in 2013, Espen struggled with injury throughout 2014 but returned to the European Tour by finishing 12th at Qualifying School.

He marked his first tournament back on the tour by finishing 14th at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Concentrating on the Challenge Tour in 2016, Espen took second place at the Swiss Challenge in June before clocking up a second professional win with victory at the D+D REAL Slovakia Challenge thanks to a final round of 64.

Espen represented Norway at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, as golf was reintroduced after a 112-year absence, and shot consecutive rounds of 69 over the weekend on the way to finishing 43rd.
