Chubby Chandler: Danny's Dream Start
Article posted: 18 July 2015
It's been a dream start for Danny Willett, but a nightmare for golf followers the world over.
Now the golf world's oldest and greatest championship won't finish until Monday as high winds continued to buffet the home of the game yesterday.
While Danny sits atop the leaderboard at St. Andrews with a two-round nine under aggregate, many golfers were left with their second rounds unfinished after play was possible for only half an hour early Saturday morning.
The wisdom of the decision to send the players out at all was being questioned yesterday because the more exposed areas of the course were always likely to cause problems given the strength of the wind.
Danny was one of the few players untouched by the blowout as he had completed all his 36 holes.
Now he just has to sit and wait for his chance to become the first Yorkshireman to lift the silver claret jug.
It is well within his capabilities.
Defending St Andrews champion Louis Oosthuizen is also high up the leaderboard while Lee Westwood made good progress for what was possible of his second round.
Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke and major championship newcomer Ryan Fox both have good chances of being involved for all four rounds so ISM should have a healthy representation and major interest when the weather calms down.
And that doesn't look like happening anytime soon.
