Peter Uihlein

Peter Uihlein enjoyed a stellar amateur career in the United States, claiming a host of prestigious titles, including the USGA Men’s Amateur Championship in 2010.

A product of the American collegiate system at Oklahoma State University, he was the highest ranked amateur in the world for 52 weeks from June 2010 and twice represented the US in the Walker Cup, compiling a 6-2 record.

Peter was voted American Junior Golf Association AJGA Rolex Player of the Year twice as a junior, while his 26 top-ten finishes between 2004 and 2007 included six wins and place him eighth in the all-time list of American Boys.

Nine amateur and collegiate victories in the space of 18 months earned the affable Peter a slew of awards, including the R&A Amateur of the Year Award in 2010 and the Ben Hogan Award in 2011.

He turned professional at the end of that year, taking the brave and innovative step of focusing his attention on securing playing privileges in Europe, rather than rely on invites to events in the US.

Peter’s European odyssey took him all over the world, including Kazakhstan, India and Kenya to name just a few. And after a steady 2012, where he played predominately on the Challenge Tour, Peter exploded into prominence the following year, displaying the composure of a seasoned champion to claim his maiden European Tour title at the Madeira Islands Open in May.

Strong performances at the BMW PGA Championship and the Aberdeen Asset Management followed before he recorded two second places at the ISPS Handa Wales Open and Alfred Dunhill Links Championship respectively, with the 24-year-old coming within inches of becoming the first ever European Tour player to shoot a 59 at the latter.

Peter entered the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time in his career in September, a month after he teed up at the final major of the season, the US PGA Championship at Oak Hill in New York.

He finished 14th in the Race to Dubai and capped a superb season by receiving the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award – becoming the first American to do so.
