Kevin Phelan is one of golf’s most exciting talents, having made the successful transition from top amateur to emerging professional during the last 12 months.
The Irishman was raised in Waterford before moving to St. Augustine, Florida, aged 13. He majored in Psychology at the University of North Florida, receiving the ‘All Academic Athlete’ Award at UNF while also playing and travelling as an Irish International between 2010 and 2013.
Kevin is the only Irish Amateur to qualify for two US Opens, where he made the cut in 2013, before winning two points out of three for Great Britain and Ireland at the Walker Cup.
Having turned professional in September 2013 at the KLM Open in Holland, the 23-year-old secured his place on the 2014 Race to Dubai in spectacular fashion at Qualifying School in November. He was the only player to come from below the cut line on the final day, with his approach to the final green being described as one of the shots of the tournament.
Kevin finished 24th at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in his first tournament as a European Tour card-carrying professional and enjoyed further success in South Africa in February 2014, tying for sixth at the Tshwane Open for his best finish on tour.
