With parents who were both Olympic table tennis medallists, Ben was the youngest ever winner of the United States amateur championship when he triumphed at 17 in 2009.
He turned professional at the end of 2011 and began his pro career on the European Challenge Tour.
After three years on the Challenge Tour, Ben secured his European Tour card by finishing in third place in the 2014 rankings.
As well as winning the Rolex Trophy in 2014, Ben also caught the eye with an impressive performance at the Open Championship, where he finished tied for 26th.
His win at the Rolex Trophy in Geneva made him the first Korean to win on the tour and he finished the year with three top-five finishes in his last four events.
Ben shot to global attention with a record-breaking victory at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in May 2015.
After an opening round of 71, Ben moved into second place with a 64 on Friday before shooting 67 on Saturday.
Tied for the lead going into the final round, Ben produced an impressive round of 65 to win by six shots and his -21 total was the first time anyone has scored -20 at the tournament.
Ben secured his third professional win when he beat ISM stablemate Seung-Yul Noh, who finished second, by a shot to win the Shinhan Donghae Open in South Korea in September 2015.
