Matthew came to national recognition in 2006 when he won the British Boys Amateur Championship at Royal Aberdeen.
He made his full England debut at the Home Internationals in 2009 on his home turf of Hillside, Lancashire, after a string of solid results, including fourth place in the Brabazon Trophy and third place in the West of England Stroke Play.
Matthew came tied third in the Lytham Trophy in 2010 and reached the semi final at the British Amateur at Muirfield before playing a prominent role in the England Home Internationals Team.
He gained European Tour Cards for 2011, 2012 and 2013 through Qualifying School.
